Development leads to design for new Schlesinger Associates website

Schlesinger Associates is a leading data collection company offering a broad range of qualitative and quantitative solutions for market research. They have been working in their industry for 45 years, and the company is still owned and run by the Schlesinger family, despite now having 18 offices across 3 countries, and being a truly global business.

Business need

Their existing web presence had been added to and adapted over the years, and as a result was often hard to use, and not always as clear as it might be. It was also no longer up to the task of representing a large and successful global organisation. Auros was initially selected just to provide the technical implementation of a new design, using Alterian's CMC platform. After volunteering some advice about the direction of the proposed design, Auros were additionally asked to provide full creative services for the new site.

What Auros did

Having been awarded the task of redesigning the site as well as rebuilding it, Auros embarked upon a full creative process, providing the client with three design concepts, all quite different, and each presenting a different side to the company's personality. We worked closely with Schlesinger to understand the history of the organisaton and their key markets. The final design uses strong typography, delivered using font-replacement technology, as a means of ensuring a bold, clean design that works well within a CMS environment. As a result, even quite ordinary pages are transformed into memorable design pieces.

We also worked with Schlesinger to create the final set of images and messages seen on the homepage - an immensely rewarding process that helped us get to the heart of what Schlesinger means to its clients.

The site was built using Alterian's content-management system, and benefits from the addition of a custom-built 'Factsheet Creator'. This allows users to add pages to their own personal brochure, and then generate a single PDF of this collection. Other highlights include the Auros image gallery plugin, that allows Schlesinger's content managers to insert one or many images into the page, and dynamically shows them as a gallery or single image accordingly.

Auros provided extensive support during the content-migration process, advising on image selection and sizing, use of language and how to get the best from the CMS.
