Arqiva appoints Auros to deliver new intranet
Client profile
Arqiva, the communications infrastructure and media services
company, operates at the heart of the broadcast, satellite and
mobile communications markets.
The company is at the forefront of network solutions and
services in the digital world. Arqiva provides much of the
infrastructure behind television, radio, satellite and wireless
communications in the UK and has a significant presence in Ireland,
mainland Europe and the USA. Customers include major broadcasters
such as the BBC, ITV, BSkyB and the independent radio groups, major
telco providers including the UK's five mobile network operators,
and the emergency services.
Business need
Auros has been selected to provide an intranet that will promote
better communication and make it easier for Arqiva's staff to
collaborate. By engaging with a wide variety of business areas and
internal stakeholders, Auros has already helped Arqiva define a
solution that will provide a step change in internal
communications.
What Auros did
The technology solution was designed collaboratively by Arqiva
and Auros, and will ensure the solution creates a scalable platform
on which to build. One example of this will be through the
company-wide approach to content management, enabling different
business areas to own and maintain their own content.
Auros' depth of experience and track record of successfully
delivering similar projects made them an obvious contender. For
example, Auros recently delivered an intranet for the Scottish Police which
achieved a saving of £3.4m within 12 months.
It was Auros' consultancy-led approach and methodology that
enabled Arqiva and Auros to work so effectively together to
translate Arqiva's requirements into a solution design that both
companies believe will deliver a powerful business tool.
One of Auros' primary deliverables was the integration between
the Alterian Content Manager and Google Search Appliance. This will
provide Arqiva with an enterprise class, seamless search function
enabling users to search content across various systems. This
search integration will also provide Arqiva with an extensible
search platform by allowing additional systems to be easily
integrated as future business requirements demand.
Another key element of the solution design is to provide users
with a personalised and engaging online experience. The new
intranet will allow user profiles to be personalised, based on a
comprehensive integration with Active Directory and PeopleSoft.
Users will be able to specify their own links on their home page
and personalise their notifications.
The Jitbit forum tool will be integrated with Alterian Content
Manager to provide an extensible platform for online collaboration
as specified by Arqiva.
Arqiva's intranet users will enjoy the ability to view
personalised news feeds, with news content being delivered based on
the users' geographic location and organisation department. This
will allow news to be targeted on a global, department or
geographical basis.
